Dimensional Accuracies in Fully Customized Lingual Appliance Systems-a Pilot Study
Lee Dong-Yul

Kim Yoon-Ji
Abstract
Purposes: The purpose of this study was to analyze dimensional accuracies of two customized lingual bracket systems, Harmony (American Orthodontics, Sheboygan, WI, USA) and Incongnito (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA).

Materials & Methods: Upper anterior brackets of Harmony and Incognito brackets (n=12) were measured with a stereomicroscope (SMU-ZTM; Nikon, Tokyo, Japan), and cross-sectional dimensions of individualized rectangular Nickel-Titanium (Ni-Ti), beta-Titanium (TMA), and stainless steel (SS) wires for each system were measured with a digital caliper.

Results: The mean slot widths were 0.478¡¾0.024 mm for Incognito and 0.483¡¾0.013 mm for Harmony. All archwires were undersized and cross-sectional dimensions had mean errors of 0.053¡¾0.005 mm for Incognito system and 0.055¡¾0.016 mm for Harmony with no statistical difference.

Conclusion: The two fully customized lingual appliance systems had bracket slots with minimal dimensional errors. However, there was a significant amount of dimensional error in wires of both systems.
