Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the factors and predictors that affect the total extent of inner retinal dimples after epiretinal membrane surgery.

Methods: Among patients who underwent epiretinal membrane surgery from December 2017 to April 2021, those with inner retinal dimples on optical coherence tomography after surgery were retrospectively investigated. Based on the median total extent of inner retinal dimples, patients were divided into the smaller extent group and the larger extent group, and the best corrected visual acuity, metamorphopsia score (M-score), type of epiretinal membrane, indocyanine green staining, and photocoagulation treatment were compared. Factors affecting the total extent of inner retinal dimples were identified through multiple regression analysis, and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed factors predicting groups with different inner retinal dimple extent.

Results: Fifty-one eyes were included for analysis. The M-score was significantly higher in the larger extent group (p < 0.001). In multiple regression analysis, the M-score and indocyanine green staining showed a significant correlation with extent (p < 0.001, p = 0.02, respectively). Multivariate logistic regression analysis also showed m-score and indocyanine green staining as significant factors (p = 0.002, p = 0.028, respectively).

Conclusion: The higher is the pre-operation M-score and the greater is the area of indocyanine green staining during surgery, the greater is the extent of inner retinal dimples.
