Abstract

Purpose: To describe a shovel and lift technique using a beveled vitrectomy probe for removing vitreous cortex remnants in highly myopic eyes.
Case summary: Retrospective review of a single-center series of cases with high myopia operated with a beveled vitrectomy probe.
The shovel and lift technique with a 23-gauge beveled vitrectomy probe was used after visualizing vitreous cortex remnants on the retinal surface with triamcinolone. Once the margin of the vitreous defect was found, it was attached to the port of the beveled vitrectomy probe and lifted like a shovel gently using high vacuum mode.
Conclusions: The introduction of a beveled vitrectomy probe simplified the removal of vitreous cortex remnants in eyes with high myopia, which was previously extremely challenging.
