Abstract

Purpose: We report a case of complete resolution of extensive exudative retinal detachment following Gamma-Knife¢ç radiosurgery (GKR) for diffuse choroidal hemangioma (DCH) with limited response to photodynamic therapy and intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injection.
Case Summary: A 28-year-old man with Sturge-Weber syndrome presented with a DCH and exudative retinal detachment. Several intravitreal anti-VEGF injections and sessions of photodynamic therapy were used to induce regression of retinal detachment, but the response was limited and quickly deteriorated. Extensive exudation was completely resolved after a single GKR.
Conclusions: GKR could be an effective treatment option for DCH patients with extensive exudative retinal detachment who have a limited response to photodynamic therapy and intravitreal anti-VEGF injections.
