Abstract

Purpose: The authors describe a rare case of bilateral central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) associated with Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM).
Case summary: A 60-year-old man presented with headache and a decrease in visual acuity in the right eye for 1 year. Ocular examinations showed scattered intraretinal hemorrhages, central venous dilatation, increased vessel tortuosity, macular edema, and peripheral nonperfusion bilaterally. The patient was referred to the internal medicine department for suspected systemic disease and diagnosed with WM.
Conclusions: We report a case of bilateral CRVO with WM in a patient who developed refractory macular edema and who had a slight decrease vessel tortuosity and macular edema after systemic chemotherapy.
