A Study on Oral Health Status of Infants according to Mothers Oral Health Knowledge and Needs

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the oral health status of the children according to the oral health knowledge and oral care method of the mother and to increase the interest of the mother in the child oral cavity and to find out effective management method and oral health improvement for the prevention of dental caries in infants.

Methods: Decay teeth, missing teeth, and number of teeth (filling teeth) were measured for the dental hygienists and the children who visited the laboratories in the A, G, S city, sealant treatment, and dental microfilm management score were recorded and the questionnaire, which asked the knowledge of oral health knowledge and preventive care needs, was distributed to kindergartners before the start of the study.

Results: ¡®Fluoride treatment is necessary for the prevention of cavities¡¯ 69.7% of the infant¡¯s mother¡¯s education level is higher than college graduates, and 59.1% of ¡®sealant is necessary for the prevention of cavities¡¯ is a statistically significant difference (p£¼0.05). Infant brushing education, gender, and age were significantly higher in control group than control group (p£¼0.01).

Conclusion: The knowledge of the oral health of the mother and the need of the preventive treatment are believed to be related to the oral health status of infants.
