Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a major carbohydrate component of the extracellular matrix. It creates a hydrophilic environment and plays an important role in the process of tissue repair. We used hyaluronic acid based dressing materials to evaluate the effects on wound healing and compared them with other dressing materials through the experiment using Sprague-Dawley rats. We divided the wound into four groups of dressing material: Group A with HA mesh (Connettivina? pad) and HA gel (Connettivina? 0.2% gel), Group B with HA mesh only, Group C with Chlorhexidine acetate mesh (Bactigras?), Group D with gauze as a negative control group. We compared each group with gross findings by tracing the remained wound, histological test on each time periods. This study suggest hyaluronic acid based dressing induces stable reepithelization and collagen synthesis in the wound healing process, and is expected as one of effective dressing material for treatment of wound healing.
