Mori Cortex Radicis, Farfarae Flos, Asteris Radix had been prescribed to treat asthmatic symptoms and help to eliminate sputum in oriental pharmacology, but the anti-inflammatory mechanism of the herbs are not sufficiently defined. Here, we investigated the anti-inflammatory mechanism of the herb 80% ethanol extracts on LPS-induced HMC-1 cells. To determine inhibitory effect of the herb extracts on chronic inflammation, expression of COX-2 and production of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-¥á were measured. COX-2 expression was downregulated dose-dependently and release of IL-6 and TNF-¥á were inhibited by effect of each herb extracts. This study provides information about the cellular mechanism of anti-inflammatory effect of these three herbs extracts which might be helpful to study anti-inflammatory agents.
