Abstract
Angiomyolipomas (AMLs) are neoplasms of renal origin, which are rare and almost always benign. Although extrarenal AMLs have been reported, only a few cases have been described involving the uterus. And no cases have been reported in Korea. We report an asymptomatic 62-year-old woman with an AML involving the uterus. Pre-operatively, the lesion was indistinguishable from a dermoid cyst on ultrasound and computed tomography (CT); however, at explorative laparotomy, a circumscribed intramural lesion involving the corpus uteri was found. Histologically, it was comprised of mature adipocytes with numerous intervening anomalous blood vessels and non-vascular smooth muscle cells. Immunohistochemical staining revealed that non-vascular smooth muscle cells were positive for ¥á-smooth muscle actin (¥á-SMA), negative for antihuman melanoma (HMB-45), and the proliferating vessels were positive for CD34.
