Abstract
Objective: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the sexual function of patients who underwent a Distal Urethral Polypropylene Sling (DUPS) procedure for the treatment of urodynamic stress incontinence, using validated questionnaires.

Methods: The study population consisted of 45 sexually active patients among 112 subjects who underwent DUPS due to urodynamic stress incontinence at our institution between August, 2005, and June, 2006. The evaluation of sexual function was performed before the operation and six months after using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). The questionnaire consisted of 19 questions over six fields of desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain, as well as the presence of incontinence during sexual intercourse.

Results: Medical record review showed a mean age of 45.5 years, a mean parity of 2.1, and a mean follow-up period of 6 months. There was no statistically significant difference between the preoperative and postoperative individual domain scores or in the total FSFI score. The pre-operative coital incontinence noted in 12 patients was not present in 11 of these patients after the procedure.

Conclusion: DUPS placement does not affect overall sexual function.
