Abstract
The majority of puerperal infections are related to cesarean deliveries. A pelvic abscess complicating the puerperium after a vaginal delivery is rare and can be a diagnostic challenge. Abscess formation >4 weeks after vaginal delivery is very
uncommon. Puerperal abscess formation is typically insidious, marked by diagnostic delay and requires surgical intervention. However, a single treatment with combination antibiotics is a viable option for patients with pelvic abscesses who show prompt clinical improvement. We describe a case involving the successful medical treatment of a pelvic abscess following a normal vaginal delivery with a review of the literature.
