Abstract

Antenatal placental abscess formation is a rare condition, and it is difficult to prenatally diagnose a placental abscess. a 40-year-old woman came to our clinic due to implantation of a fetus at a low uterine segment, and she had undergone uneventful prenatal care. She suddenly came to the emergency room due to abdominal pain and fever, and she showed a fluctuating pattern of fever despite of antibiotic usage. A diagnosis of a chorioamnionitis was made according to the symptoms, and so we performed a cesarean delivery. Pus was observed around the placenta near the incision site, and this was associated with placenta increta that showed massive hemorrhage; we then performed a hysterectomy. She was discharged in a stable condition and the baby was fine. The appropriate management for placental abscess would be consistent with surgical removal
and administering antibiotics.
