Abstract
Encephalocele represents one end of the spectrum of open neural tube defects. Other malformations and/or chromosomal anomalies are frequently noted and underlying syndromic causes should be taken into accout. Most cases are diagnosed prenatally (1st or 2nd trimester) with advanced screening tools and have a high pregnancy termination rate worldwide. An unusual case of parietal encephalocele is presented in this report. A huge parietal paracranial mass was detected prenatally by ultrasound and following delivery by elective cesarean section. It was consistent with isolated parietal encephalocele on the postnatal brain MRI. This case is presented because the mother gave birth at term and postnatal neurosurgery was successful without any postoperative complications. Clinical considerations are discussed.
