Abstract
The sex steroids have been associated with brain development and global functioning, directly or indirectly, for thousands of years. However, the current data and established evidence for a relationship between cognition and estrogen are limited. As the population ages and dementia becomes more prominent in medical practice, a better understanding of the relationship between estrogen and cognition might help with patient management. The following discussion summarizes some of the most recent evidence linking estrogen with cognition and dementia.
