Abstract

Lungworm infestation was detected in a 3-year-old dairy goat raised in Korea. Even characteristic lesions indicating lungworm infestation were not observed at necropsy, histological findings showed that many larvae and adult worms were only found in the alveoli of left diaphragmatic lobe of lungs but not in bronchi and trachea, and surrounded by inflammatory cells including mainly macrophages and lymphoid cells with minor eosinophils and neutrophils. From the location of lung lesions caused by lungworms, it was considered that these lung lesions might be caused by Muellerius capillaris or Cystocaulus nigrescens infestations, since these two lungworms induce lesions only in the lung parenchyma but not in the bronchi or trachea. This is the first report of lungworm infestation in goats raised in Korea.
