This study was performed to investigate the proper method for evaluating normal hepatic function in healthy miniature pigs. Six male miniature pigs were divided into 3 groups. After general anesthesia, the phytate group and the BrIDA group had hepatoscintigraphy using 5 mCi of 99mTc-phytate and 99mTcbromotrimethyl IDA (BrIDA), respectively. And the Tc-O©þ- group had per rectal portal scintigraphy (PRPS) using 10 mCi of 99mTc-pertechnetate (O©þ-). In our study, 99mTc-phytate hepatoscintigraphy revealed lung uptake of phytate. However, it was better to observe liver than hepatoscintigraphy using 99mTc-tin colloid in our previous study. 99mTc-BrIDA hepatoscintigraphy showed good liver image to examine the hepatic function. And it was easy and fast for imaging compared to hepatoscintigraphy using 99mTc-phytate. However, 99mTc-O©þ? PRPS showed poor result to examine the hepatic function. It only showed radioactivity in rectum and did not show it in liver and other organs. 99mTc-BrIDA hepatoscintigraphy was the best diagnostic method to evaluate the hepatic function in miniature pigs. However, SPECT and radiopharmaceuticals for SPECT are disappearing and PET is used mainly in Korea. Therefore, new evaluating method of hepatic function using PET in miniature pigs will be needed.
