|
Treatment for various types of neuropathic pain is still an unmet medical need. Currently, rat models are developed for the neuropathic pain research that is seeking tools for adequate treatment. This short review briefly introduces neuropathic pain and its induction mechanisms, and describes methods preparing four prevalent rat models of neuropathic pain, such as chronic constriction injury, partial sciatic nerve ligation, spinal nerve ligation and spared nerve injury. Furthermore, pain behavioral tests and environmental factors, affecting the pain behaviors in rats, are summarized. This review will provide information for pain researchers to establish rat models of neuropathic pain in their laboratories.
