A 5-year-old female Persian cat was presented for investigation of anorexia and occasional vomiting. Abdominal radiography and sonography did not demonstrate any abnormal lesions. The cat had been fed a commercial pellet diet. The possibility of feline leukemia, feline immunodeficiency virus and heartworm was ruled out from the results of rapid test kits. Helicobacter species was detected by the rapid urease test with vomiting materials and Helicobacter rpoB DNA polymerase chain reaction analysis with stool. Thereafter, Helicobacter heilmannii was identified by species-specific polymerase chain reaction analysis. This case was confirmed as gastroenteric disease induced by Helicobacter heilmannii, and antibiotic therapy was performed. The cat made a complete recovery following an antibiotic therapy. On our knowledge, this is a very rare report about Helicobacter heilmannii-induced gastroenteric disease in cat and may provide a valuable data on the study of feline Helicobacter infection.
