Brain Plasticity Induced by Enriched Environment
Lee Min-Young

Cho Sung-Rae
Abstract
Enriched environment (EE) has been shown to affect neurobehavioral function with improved learning and memory, which is the most consistent finding, together with enhanced markers for synaptic plasticity and long-term potentiation. The beneficial effects of EE have been partially attributed to upregulation of neurotrophic factors, proteins involved in neuronal survival, and activity-dependent plasticity. Here, we focus on changes of the neuronal activities that occur in response to complex stimulation by EE. We emphasize the neurobiological consequences of specific elements of enrichment as a model of rehabilitative exercise.
