Abstract
Purpose : To report the methods and results of the survey on glaucoma awareness and knowledge performed for the World Glaucoma Week event.

Methods : An online survey on glaucoma awareness and knowledge was conducted among 500 Korean participants aged ¡Ã20 years in 2017 and 2018.

Results : Among the participants, 97.4% had heard about glaucoma, with most learning about it through family members, friends, or colleagues (31.2%), following mass media, including television, radio, and newspaper (27.4%). Regarding the knowledge on glaucoma, including the possibility of blindness (20.9%), irreversible trait (68.0%), risk factors (55.6% for family history, 76.4% for high myopia), and symptoms (69.6%), many of the participants had an insufficient level of knowledge. Only 8% participants had undergone ocular examination for glaucoma evaluation.

Conclusions : Despite the common recognition of glaucoma, many had an insufficient knowledge level about it, and ocular examination for glaucoma assessment was not commonly performed. Increased efforts are needed to enhance the population¡¯s knowledge and improve the diagnosis of glaucoma.
