Abstract
According to clinical findings in the Oriental Medicine published hitherto, the Kagamchungkangunbi-Tang described by the 1st internal medicine division teams, Oriental Medical Hospital, Kyung Hee Medical Center is the antihepato toxic agents, a herb mixture which liver protecting properties had been ascribed to for long.
The antihepatotoxic activity or curative effect was proved by the following tests:
Antagonizing a liver damage which was caused by CC14 and can be demonstrated by prolongation of the sleeping period after administration of thiopental sodium; protective effects on a liver defect caused by CCI4 which can be proved by hepatic metabolizing enzyme activity of serum GOT, GPT and LDH, and by decreasing as well as on the blood level of total cholesterol.
The curative or antihepatotoxic effect of this species against CC14-induced liver damage in rats were compared to the control animals and trial animals. The results summarized as follows:
1. It was found to antagonize by means of the species the rise of GOT serum concentration in rats after giving CCI4. The value, revealed a significantly stronger effect for the empirical animals.
2. The GOT concentration in the serum of the was clearly less than in the serum
of the animals treated with the simultaneous method was clearly less than in
the control animals. The difference in average values was statistically significant.
3. The total chlesterol in the serum of rats treated with sample was more less
than in the control group.
4. In case of serum LDH activity the value was found to display similarly to above S-GOT or S-GPT activity. It was found to display the high level of curative activity producing significant lowering of serum LDH.
5. The prolongation of sleep induced by CC14 was antagonized by this herbs. The difference between the average values of the CC14 group and the CC14 group and the CC14+sample group is significant, with a probability of error of P<0. 001
