Interaction of Paljungsan and Hepatotoxic Agents, and Influences of Paljungsan on the Function of Circullatory System

Abstract
Paljungsan using as an diuretics are composed of Polygoni avicularis Herba, Dianthi Semen, Rhei Rhizoma, Akebiae Lignum, Talcum, Gardeniae Fructus, Plantaginis Semen, Junci Herba and Glucyrrhizae Radix.
Effect of ethanol extracts obtaned from Paljungsan (EtH-ex) on total cholesterol levels, alkaline phosphatase and transaminase activities in serum of CC14 and ethionine induced-rabbits, and the effects on the function of the circulatory system, respiration, motility of isolated rabbit-duodenum and analgesia were studies as follows;
1. Total cholesterol level (Tc), alkaline phosphatase activities (Ap), glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase activites (GOT) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase activities (GPT) in serum of rabbits were significantly elevated by CC14 and ethionine administration.
2. Increased Tc, Ap, GOT and GPT in CC14 and ethionine induced-rabbits were significantly and gradually decreased by EtH-ex oral-administration, and were returned to the control level after 15 days.
3. Tc, Ap, GOT and GPT in CC14-EtH-ex and ethionine-EtH-ex simultaneously administered
groups were not increased compared with only CC14 and ethionine administered groups.
4. Cardiac-contractile response of the isolated rat atria, were significantly increased with EtH-
ex at concentration of 10-4 g/ml and at 10-3 g/ml.
5. Blood pressure of both normal and vagotomized rabbits were not changed with the intraven-
ous administration of EtH-ex 50mg/kg, neverthless respiration were slightly depressed.
6. Motility of the isolated rabbit-duodenum was not changed with EtH-ex 10-5 g/ml, EtH-ex
10-4 g/ml and EtH-ex 10-3 g/ml.
7. Analgesic effect of EtH-ex according to the acetic acid stimulating method was seen to have marked 67.2% analgesia.
