A Study of Effective Acupuncture Points to the Abdominal Pain

Abstract
n order to find out the commonly used acupuncture points for the treatment of abdominal pain, statistical work was carried out bibliographically and symptomatically, and following results were obtained. 1. By the aspect of frequency of meridian application, all the points of Leg Lesser Eum Kidney meridian and Leg Greater Eum Spleen meridian were applied to abdominal pain, and 87.5% of points of Conceptional Vessel meridian, and 75.5% of the points of Leg Yang Myeong Stomach meridian were used practically. It is considered that the points of abdomen belong to Eum conception and those points of Eum meridians were applied frequently than the Yang meridians. 2. By the aspect of region, the points of Leg Greater Eum Spleen meridian were mostly applied with 76% on the upper, middle and lower abdomen respectively.
3. On the upper abdomen, the points of Bog-tong-gog (K 20), Hwal-yug-mun (Sp 24) were applied with 54.5%., Tae-baeg (Sp 3) with 50%, Jung-wan (CV 12), Sang-wan (CV 13), Tae-gye (K,3) and Gong-son (Sp 4) with 45.5% and Yeong-heo (K 24) with 41% respectively. On the middle abdomen, Su-bun (CV 9) point was mostly applied with 59%, Sin-gweol (CV 8), Bu-ryu (K 7) and Ru-gog (Sp 7) with 50%, and Ha-wan (CV 10), Sa-man (K 14), Sang-gog (K 17), Bog-gyeol (Sp 14) and Bog-ae (Sp 16) with 45.5% respectively, and on the lower abodmen, Jung-ju (K 15) with 64%, Gwanweon (CV 4) with 59% and Su-do (Sp 28), Gwi-rae (Sp 29) with 55.5% respectively. 4. On the upper abdominal pain, the points of -Tae-gye (K 3), Tae-baeg (Sp 3), Yeo-tae (S 45), and Jog-sam-ri (S 36) were frequently applied. For the treatment of middle abodminal pain, the points of Bu-ryu (K 7), Dae-do (Sp 2) and Jog-sam-ri (S 36) were mostly used.
The points of Yong-cheon (K 1), Sang-gu (Sp 5), Eum-neung-cheon (Sp 9) and Ham-gog (S 43) were frequently applied for the main treatment points of lower abdominal pain. 5. It is statistically characterized that the points for abdominal pain were located more on the extremities than the pain area of the abodmen.
