Abstract
This experimental studies were carried out in order to determine the effectiveness of moxibustion on the :antifatigue in mice and adrenal cortical insufficiency induced with dexamethasone in rats. The moxa were cauterized respectively on the corresponding loci to Sin-Su (B23), Gwan-Weon (CV 4) and Gu-Mi (CV 15) of human, and swimming time of mice were checked and contents of serum cortisol, concentration of serum sodium and potassium, blood eosinophils, contents of adrenal ascorbic acid and adrenal weight of rats were also measured.
Following results have been obtained;
1. Moxibustion treated respectively on the Sin-Su, Gwan-Weon and Gu-Mi showed an antifatigue effectiveness. Swimming time of mice were extended significantly comparing with control data in each group, but in case of one day moxibustion did not reveal any statistical values.
2. The contents of serum cortisol were increased significantly comparing with control data in case of Sin-Su, Gwan-Weon and Gu-Mi, but in case of one day moxibustion did not show significant differences.
3. Moxibustion stimulation on Sin-Su, Gwan-Weon and GuMi did not make remarkable changes in the concentration of serum sodium and the concentration of serum potassium were reduced significantly in case of Sin-Su and Gwan-Weon comparing with control group, while no significance was recognizable at Gu-Mi mixibustion treatment.
4. Level of blood eosinophils were decreased significantly comparing with control group in case of Sin-Su and Gwan-Weon being a slight decreasing tendency with no significance in case of Gu-Mi.
5. The contents of adrenal ascorbic acid showed reduced tendency in case of all moxibustion treatment and particularly significant in 5 days, 7 days of Gwan-Weon and Sin-Su moxibustion group.
6. Adrenal weight of rats were increased significantly comparing with control group in case of Sin-Su, Gwan-Weon and Gu-Mi moxibustion treatment.
7. By the above results, it is recognized that the loci of Sin-Su (B 23) and Gwan-Weon (CV 4) indicated the remarkable therapeutic effectiveness to adrenal cortical insufficiency by moxibustion, and it is though that validity of moxibustion therapy in oriental medicine is acknowledged a thing to be true.
