Effect of Sambaek-Tang Water Extract on the Mucous cell in Intestine of the Rat

Abstract
In order to study the effect of Sambaek-Tang water extract on the mucous cell in intestine of the Rat, the experimental animal were administrated with 0.2. mg per gm body weight of Sambaek-Tang extract and castor oil through oral cavity. They were sacrified by ether anesthesia and obtained from distal and proximal portions of the small intestine and colon, and fixed in 10% neutral formalin. After embedded in paraffin, sectioned in 5 micrometer thickness, and stained with P.A.S. (periodic acid Schiffs) reaction. The average number of the mucous cell was counted in each specimen over 50 fields under 450 magnification.
The following results were obtained.
1. The average number of mucous cell in intestinal distal portion increased by time lapsed highly value 6 hrs group (95.8 364) after administrated castor oil and highly value 12 hrs group (83.832.9) after administrated Sambaek-Tang water extract.
2. The average number of mucous cell in intestinal proximal portion showed by time lapsed highly value 12 hrs group (110.8 56.6) after administrated castor oil and increased by time lapsed highly value 6 hrs group (102.6 40.5) after administrated sambaek-Tang water extract.
3. The average number of 12 hrs group (161.6 54.3) after administrated castor oil and decreased by time lapsed lowest value 6 hrs group (139.6 42.2) after administrated Sambaek-Tang water extract.
4. According to the above findings, it is presumed that Sambaek-Tang water extract accelerate discharge production of mucuous cell in increasing.
