An Experimental Study on the Effect of Rehmannise Radix and Cirsii Herba Extract Administration to the Serum Prothrombin Time in Mouse

Abstract
Rehemanniae Radix and Cirsii Herba were known as hemostatics in oriental medicine. The auther had an attempt to study the hemostatic effect of Rehmanniae Radix and Cirsii Herba extract administration orally by measuring the serum pro-thrombin time in mouse and obtained the results as follows.
1. The serum protrombin time in the Rehmanniae Radix extract administration group was found to be the mean value of 8.30 0.18 sec. and it showed faster prothrombin time than the control group of 11.30 0.18 sec.
2. The serum prothrombin time in the Cirsii Herba extract administration group was found to be the mean value of 8.27 0.05 sec. and it showed faster pro-thrombin time than the ordinary group of 11.40 0.18 sec.
3. At the condition of hypoprothrombinemia induced by the warfarin administration, Rehmanniae Radix administration group showed faster serum prothrombin time with the mean value of 8.68 0.40 sec. after 36 hours and 9.15 0.21 sec. after 48 hours than the control group. But it didn¢¥t show any significant value after 12 hours.
4. Cirsii Herba administration to the hypoprothrombinemia induced by warfarin made the results faster prothrombin time showed 31.32 2.94 sec. after 24 hours, 11.93 1.16 sec. after 36 hours and 7.92 0.13 sec. after 48 hours.
5. Both Rehmanniae Radix and Cirsii Herba didn¢¥t show any anti-plasmin action.
