In order to study the effect of Jokyungjongok-Tang, reputed to be effective for the remedy of sterility, on the pregnancy and ovulation in rat as well as on the progesterone level and serum estradiol-17j3 level in female adult rabbit, a series of experiment was conducted and the follow results were obtained.
1. The antiabortive effect of the drug was significantly increased in proportion to the amount administered when compared to that of control group.
2. The level of serum progesterone in pseudopregnant rabbit was significantly increased in comparison to that of control group.
3. The number of ovum during ovulation in drug administered rat was significantly increased only when the drug was given 14:30 and 15:30 hours prior to the heat in contrast to that of control group.
4. The effect of the drug on the ovulation in PGF2a treated animal was remarkable in effect, the number of ovum was significantly increased.
5. The level of estradiol 17-j3 in serum of pseudopregnant rabbit showed the decreasing tendency at the early stage of administration, but afterwards it did not reveal any significant change.
The effect of solid extract powder was tended to be more effective in general than that of the mixture of each solid powder of Jokyungjongok-Tang.
According to the above results, it can be concluded that Jokyungjongok-Tang, which is widely applied for the disorders of menstruation and sterility, has a remark-able reproductive effect in the experimental animal.
