A Study on the Functional Relationship between Liver and Joints

Abstract
This paper is made to investigate the functional relationship between Liver and Toints. For the purpose of this research, the experiments have been made by rabbits divided into two groups.
The rabbits in A group [Gluteus contused (control) & Knee joint contused (sample)) , and B group [CCl4 Liver damaged (control) & CCl4 Liver damage + Knee joint contused (sample)] were compared with their normal rabbits.
In this experiment, the changes in degrees of the metabolic substrates in the blood serum, the enzyme activities and amount of the hormones were measured respectively as follows.
1. The changes on the metabolic substrates;
Total protein was considerably increased in A group and decreased in B group. The total protein in the blood serum was increased in case of knee joint contused rabbits, but it was decreased in the case of knee joint contused combined with liver damaged rabbits.
Globulin was, at a similar rate, increased in case of groups with knee joint contused, gluteus contused and knee joint contused complication with Liver damage, but was not particularly changed in case of liver damaged only. Total cholesterol was markedly increased in case of groups with the knee joint contused and the complication of knee joint contused and liver damage, but was not significantly changed or was slightly decreased in the case of groups in gluteus contused or liver damaged only.
Glucose was increased in case of every group soon after experiments, but the glucose in B group was considerably increased in comparision with A group for
5 6 hours in the experiments the highest-level of glucose was observed in case of the complication in knee joint contused and liver damaged group. 2. The changes on the enzyme activities;
The degrees of the enzyme activities such as GOT, GPT and ALP in A group were not significantly changed, but were suddenly increased in case of B group soon after experiments. Among case, of B group, degrees of the enzyme activities was considerably increased in case of the complication of knee joint contused with liver damage in compassion, and the liver damaged only.
3, The changes on the amount of the hormones;
In every experiment, ACTH was suddenly increased, in particular the highest-level of ACTH was shown in case of group with the liver damaged.
Amount of ACTH in case of the complication of knee joint contused and liver damaged were shown higher level than one in case of A group.
The amount of cortisol showed a similar experimental result as one of ACTH, for instance, a considerable and higher amount of cortisol showed in case of B group than A group.
T3 was suddenly increased in 2 hour soon after each experiment, in particular showed a sudden increment in case of the lives damage than the complication of the knee joint contused combined with the liver damaged of B group, and also showed more increased level than A group.
T4 was suddenly incr based in 1 hour soon after experiments, and showed a considerably more increased amount in B group than A group, and in B group showed a tendency to be increased in case of liver damaged than the complication of knee joint contused combined with liver damage.
In consideration of the experimental results, the conclusions are as follows. A knee joint contused, a liver damaged combined with a complication of the knee joint contused and liver damaged. Should be understood the have temperarily an influence on considerable changes in degrees of the metabolic substrates and the enzyme activities and amounts of the hormones in the body. This is to be understood as a result to confirm the functional relationship between Liver and knee Joints in an Oriental Medicine, but in due course of time an experiment on the functional relationship to other various joints should be made.
