Comparison of Effects of Foeniculi Fructus and Anethi Fructus on Motility of Isolated Rabbit Intestine

Abstract
For the right usage to the curative aspects and comparison of the differences between Foeniculum Fructus and Anethi Fructus, this experiment was conducted on the motility of isolated rabbit intestine treated with extracts of these crude drugs.
Does responses of these crude drugs were undertaken, by magnus` method and in order to clarify the pharmacological mechanism of these crude drugs, the inter-action was observed with acethycholine, atropine, epinephrine, papaverine and barium chloride.
Results were as follows.
1) The effect of Foeniculi Fructus was slightly contractive on the motility of isolated rabbit intestine from 10-2 g/ml to 3 x 10-2 g/ml. But at the 5 x 10-2 g/ml it showed the relaxant effect and it maintained the relaxant effect at the 10-1 g/ml.
2) The effect of Anethi Fructus was no reaction on the motility of isolated rabbit intestine from 10-2 g/ml to 3 X10-2 g/ml, but it maintained the relaxant effect from 5 x 10-2 g/ml to 10-1 g/ml.
3) In the effect of Foeniculi Fructus, there was no interaction with acethylcholine, epinephrine, papaverine and barium chloride, but it had the interrupted inter-action with atropine.
4) In the effect of Anethi Fructus, there was no interaction with atropine, epinephrine, papaverine and barium chloride, but it had the interrupted interaction with atropine.
According to the above mentioned, there were differences between the Foeniculi Fructus and Anethi Fructus on motility of isolated rabit intestine.
