Effects of Aqua-acupuncture with Salviae Radix Extract Solution on the Alleviation of Pain and the Reduction of Blood Pressure

Abstract
In order to study the effect of aqua-acupuncture with Salviae Radix extract solution on the pain induced by acetic acid in isotonic saline solution, on the hyper-tension and on the lipid metabolism, the aqua-acupuncture was inserted into the corresponding loci of the Jog-Sam-Ri (S36) and Jung-Wan (CV12) in the experimental animals.
Anglesic effects of aqua-acupuncture was studied by counting the numbers of writhing syndrome in mice, and the effect on the reduction of blood pressure was studied by measuring the blood pressure of spontaneously hypertensive rats, and the level of total cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid and alkaline phosphatase activities were also experimented in the serum of cholesterol-pretreated rats.
The following results have been obtained.
1) Aqua-acupuncture with 1, 5 and 10g% Salviae Radix extract solution made an analgesic effect in mice and the optimal concentration for analgesic effect was 10 g%.-
2) The most remarkable reduction of blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats was noticed from 1 hour to 2 hours after aqua-acupuncture, and daily aqua-acupuncture for 5 days was also shown a significant reduction of blood pressure.
3) The level of total cholesterol and phospholipid in the serum of cholesterol-pre-
treated rats were decreased effectively after aqua-acupuncture, and triglyceride level and alkaline phosphatase activity in the serum of cholesterol-pretreated rats were also observed with a significant decrease.
4) The blood pressure after 1 hour of aqua-acupuncture in spontaneously hypertensive rats, phospholipid level and alkaline phosphatase activity in the serum of cholesterol-pretreated rats were decreased effectively at the locus of Jog-Sam-Ri (S36), whereas the levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride in the serum of cholesterol-pretreated rats were more effectively decreased at the locus of Jung-Wan (CV12)
According to the above results, it is concluded that aqua-acupuncture with Salviae Radix extract solution at the loci of Jog-Sam-Ri (S36) and Jung-Wan (CV12) showed a significant analgesic effect, marked reduction of blood pressure and the fast recovery from the increased lipid metabolism.
