Effects of Astragali Radix and Angelicae gigantis Radix on Immune Response in Mice



Abstract
In order to investigate the cell-mediated and humoral immune response, Astragali Radix and Angelicae gigantis Radix decoction was administered orally for 14 days. Astragali Radix, Angelicae gigantis Radix and Mixture of Astragali Radix. Angelicae gigantis Radix treated mice and control mice were challenged with 108 sheep red blood cells (SRBC) by intradermal injection on day 4 after sensitization with 108 SRBC by intravenous injection.
On day 5, such immune responses as delayed-type hypersensitivity, rosette forming cells with SRBC, hemagglutinin titers and hemolysin titers were measured. The results were as follows;
1. Delayed-type hypersensitivity of Astragali Radix, Angelicae gigantis Radix and Mixture of Astragali Radix. Angelicae gigantis Radix treated mice was increased than those of control mice.
2. Rosett spleen cells of Astragali Radix, Angelicae gigantis Radix and Mixture of Astragali Radix. Angelicae gigantis Radix treat:A mice were increased than those of control mice.
3. Hemagglutinin titers were increased in the Astragali Radix, the Angelicae gigantis Radix and the Mixture of Astragali Radix Angelicae gigantis Radix treated mice when compared with the control mice.
4. Hemolysin titers were increased in Astragali Radix, Angelicae gigantis Radix and Mixture of Astragali Radix Angelicae gigantis Radix treated mice when compared with the control mice.
5. In these experiment delayed-type hypersensitivity, rosett forming cells, hemagglutinin titers and hemolysin titers of Mixture of Astragali Radix. Angelicae gigantis Radix treated mice were increased more than those of Astragali Radix or Angelicae gigantis Radix treated mice. These findings suggest that Astragali Radix and Angelicae gigantis Radix enhances cell-mediated and humoral immune response.
