Studies on the Anti-Convulsive Effect Gastrodiae Rhizoma Aqua-Acupuncture

Abstract
In order to investigate the effect of Gastrodiae Rhizoma(GR) aqua-acupuncture on. The convulsion in mice, Kokclfon (Liv 8) was treated with GR aqua-acupuncture before convulsive induction and after electroshock/convulsant injection of strychnine, picrotoxin, caffeine and nicotine for convulsive induction, and the time to convulsion, time to death and sei um cholinesterase activity were measured and effect of anti-convulsion by the GR aqua-acupuncture to various loci were studied.
The results were summarized as follows.
1. GR aqua-acupuncture to Kokclion showed significant anti-convulsive effect on the electroshock induced convulsion.
2. GR aqua-acupuncture to Kokch¢¥on showed significant anti-convulsive effect on the strychnine induced convuision and the picrotoxin induced convulsion.
3. GR aqua-acupuncture to Kokcbon showed significant anti-convulsive effect on the caffeine induced convulsion. GR aqua-acupuncture before convulsive induction was more effective in lengthening the time to convulsion whereas GR aqua-acupuncture after convulsant injection for convulsive induction was more effective in lengthening the time to death.
4. GR aqua-acupuncture to Kokclfon showed significant anti-convulsive effect on before/after nicotine injection for convulsive induction. But GR aqua-acupuncture before convulsive induction. Was more effective, than after nicotine injection for convulsive indiction.
5. GR. Aqua-acupuncture to Kokclion after strychnine injection for convulsive induction was decreased more remarkably than before strychnine injection for convulsive induction on the serum cholinesterase activities in strychnine induced convulsion.
6. GR aqua-acupuncture to Kokclion before/after convulsive induction revealed similar decreasing tendency remarkably on the serum cholinesterase activities in picrotoxine and nicotine induced convulsion.7 , GR aqua--acupuncture to Kokchon before convulsive induction was decreased more remarkably than after caffeine injection for convulsive induction on the serum cholinesterase activities in caffeine induced convulsion.
8 , By the GR aqua-acupuncture to various loci, Kokchon was most effective on the anti -convulsion, thereafter Kansu (B 18 ), Changmun (Liv 13) in that order had anti-convulsive effect.
According to the above results, it was concluded that GR aqua-acupuncture showed significant anti-convulsive effect for the prevention and treatment to the various type of convulsion and it is recommended that GR aqua-acupuncture could be applied for the treatment of convulsive diseases in clinics
