Effect of Samultang and Sagunjatang on the Intravascular Caogulation Induced by Endotoxin in rats

Abstract
This study was performed to investigate the effects of Samultang (SMT) and Sagunjatang (SGT) on the intravascular coagulation induced by endotoxin in rats.
This intravascular coagulation was induced by injecting endotoxin in the caudal vein of rats. And these rats were treated with solid extract of SMT-540.8 mg/200 g (Sample A) and SGT-441.6 mg/200 g(Sample B), which were administered orally. The number of platelets, concentration d fibrinogen and FDP (fibrinogen degradation products) were measured.
The following results were obtained.
1. The number of platelets increased after the administration of SMT and SGT. SGT had significant effect.
2. Related to the concentration of fibrinogen, trial groups showed increases and reavealed a significant effect in SGT.
3. Prothrombin time was decreased significantly in the trial groups comp iced with the contrd group.
4. Concerning the degree of concentration of FDP, SMT and SGT revealed significan decreases. It is noted that SGT has more effectiveness than SMT.
According to the above results, it is concluded that SMT has Significant a ¢¥fects on the prothrombin time and FDP, SGT has significant effects on the number of platelets, fibrinogen, prothrombin time, and FDP. Therefore They seem to be applicable to the diseases related to thrombosis
