Abstract
The effects of Gagamweryungtang and Jangwontang on rats with nephrosis induced by a single tail-intravenous injection of PAN(puromycin aminonucleoside), 2.5mg/100g of body weight were evaluated in the present study.
The effects of Gagamweryungtang and Jangwontang on PAN rephrosis were evaluated by measuring ¨ç the concentrations of albumin, total protein, total lipid, cholesterol, triglyceride, creatinine, BUN(blood urea nitrogen), uric acid, GOT(glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase) and GPT(glutamic pyruvic transaminase) in the serum, ¨è the volume of the 24 hours urine and the amount of protein and creatinine in it, the concentrations of glucose and occult blood in the urine, and by observing the changes of microscopic findings of glomeruli.
The results are summerized as follows :
1. In Gagamweryungtang group as compared to the Control group, the increase of the amount of urinary protein during 24 hours was significantly decreased and the concentrations of albumin in the serum was significantly increased. The concentrations of total lipid, cholesterol, triglyceride, creatinine, BUN, uric acid and GPT in the serum were significantly decreased. The volume of the in take water was significantly increased.
There was no significant difference between Gagamweryungtang group and the control group in electron microscopic findings.
2. In Jangwontang group as compared to the Control group, the increase of the amount of urinary protein during 24 hours was significantly decreased and the concentrations of total protein and albumin in the serum were significantly increased. The concentrations of total lipid, triglyceride, creatinine and uric acid in the serum were significantly decreased.
There was no significant different between Jangwontang group and the control group in electron microscopic findings.
To conclude, it can be inferred that Gagamweryungtang and Jangwontang, both of them have the effects of improving proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, hyperlipidemia in nephrotic syndrome and relieving azotemia when nephrotic syndrome is accompanied by the acute renal failure.
