Abstract
For the assesslllent of pharmacological actions of Kampo formulation on cerebral higher function, visual evoked potentials(VEP) were measured before and after administration of 6 main Kampo formulation to 7 healthy male adults. As result, Mao-to induced a progressive significant prolongation of latency of P100 and continuous decrease of amplitude of N145(p<0.005 bypaired t-test same as following chages), while Shinbu-to induced time dependent significant prolongation of latency of N145 and transient decrease of amplitude of P100 and N145 at 60 minutes after administration. Shigyaku-san induced prolongation of latency of both of N75 and P100, transient decrease of N75 and continuous decrease of P100. Keishi-to showed a progressive prolongation of latency of P100, while Ninjin-to showed neither significant changes of latency or amplitude. Mao-to, Keishi-to, Shigyaku-san and Shinbu-to showed significant prolongation of latency, while Shimotu-to and Ninjin-to showed nonsignificant change of latency of VEP. Furthermore, Mao-to showed a progressive significant decrease of amplitude of VEP, in turn Shinbu-to showed a progressive significant increase, while Ninjin-to and Keishi-to showed no change of these parameters of VEP.
