We can find that Lee Je-ma(李濟馬) probably classified Quisqualis fructus as the medical herb for Taiyin person, but in this way, he might have had many troubles.
So, the objective of this article is to induce the Sasang constitutional classification through bibliographic study on Quisqualis fructus.
The conclusions were as follows :
Quisqualis fructus has sweet taste, Warm Qi, and no toxicity. It enters Spleen and Stomach-meridian, and its efficacy is insectisidal, digestive and helpful to the function of Spleen-Stomach system.
In the clinical application of Quisqualis fructus to the Sasang Constitutional Medicine, it was used in Shaoyang person’s Interior Febrile Disease, and in Taiyin person’s Exterior Cold Disease. In view of constitutional condition, the Shaoyang person’s disease are mainly due to Fire-Heat and progresses rapidly. So Quisqualis fructus can generate Fire and restrict the condition for ascending of Clean Yang(淸陽).
In Taiyin person’s disease, it can be used in Exterior Cold Disease or Interior Febrile disease, because it is helpful to make good condition not only for the ascending power of the Esophagus and the exhaling power of the Lung, but also for the resolving the Dryness-Heat disease.
Quisqualis fructus can promote dividing impurity and purity of the Air and Fluid, and can improve the function and structure of Taiyin person.
In addition, it’s function is similar to that of Raphani Semen.
