Surgical Treatment of Intractable Epilepsy

Abstract
The surgical management of intractable seizure is very important field of neurosurgery. Recently cortical resection, callosotomy, amygdalohippocampectomy and hemispherectomy are the most widely accepted methods of surgical treatment.
The decision to operate for treatment of seizures is preceded by an extensive multidisciplinary evaluation that included radiologic and EEG input as well as neurologic,
neuropsychologic, psychiatric and neurosurgical input. The surgical indications are clear in-tractable epileptic foci to adequate pharmacologic treatment. These range from selection based on scalp interictal EEG criteria with resections guided by electrocorticography and functional mapping to selection based on the location of ictal onset as recorded by chronically implanted depth electrodes with an anatomically standard resection of temporal lobe. These articles reviewed the history, pathophysiology and surgical treatmentof epilepsy.
