A Study on the Effect of Bonding Agent Application on the Retention of Sealant when Contaminated with Saliva

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out the more efficient method of tooth surface treatment when the etched surface is contaminated by saliva. After the comparative analyses on shear bond strengths of different test materials, fracture sites
were
observed microscopically to evaluate the failure pattern of each group.
@ES The results obtained were as follows :
@EN 1. Shear bond strengths of contaminated groups were shown to be markedly lower than those of control groups(p<.05) under the conditions with or without application of bonding agent General decline of shear bond strength with time was seen in
all the
tested groups.
2. Comparison of shear bond strength between groups without application of bonding agent, significant differences(p<.05) were found between all group except group V and ¥· regardless of time intervals(p>.05).
3. In contaminated groups where bonding agent was applied with sealant, statistical differences (p<.05) were found between all 1-day groups except group ¥³-¥µand ¥³-¥·.
4. When the sealant was applied directly to the saliva-left tooth surface, the shear bond strength of group IV was shown to be superior to that of group III(p.05).
5. Based on the results above, it was demonstrated that the bond of sealant to tooth surface is greatly affected by saliva contamination and that the complete tooth isolation method should be fully emphasized. The application of bonding resin is
recommended when performing sealant under the environment very susceptible to saliva contamination.
