A COMPARATIVE SEM STUDY OF ROOT SURFACE TREATED WITH DENTIN ADHESIVE

Abstract
The sealing effect of the sectioned-surface and etching efficacy after giving a notch at the CEJ oi premolars, was examined under SEM to discover the sealing effect of dentin adhesives, which are widely used as root hypersensitivity desensitizing agent, on dentinal tubules according to root surface condition, and the adhesionrelationship with cementum. (Exp.1) To study the sealing e¡¤ffect of dentin adHesives according to root surface conditioning the root surface of premolars were divided into three groups , nontreated, scaling & root planing, scaling 8! root ptaning + citric acid conditioning.(Exp. 2)
They were all treated withi hSl bond and Scotch bond.
The results are as following.
1. Experiment 1
(1) Opening of the dentinal lllbules after phosphoric acid could be seen
(2) Infiltration of hAt bond primer intk the dentinal tubule couBd be seen in the sectioned surface.
1. Experiment 2
(1) Dentin adhesive could not infiltrate the cementum on the nontreated root surface.
(2) The Progress of deuuneralization was greater in the group conditioned with cioic acid after root planing than the group without citric acid conditioning.
(3) Sealing of denuded dentin with dentin adhesive could be seen under SEM in both groups treated with citric acid and the group only treated with scaling and root planing.
(4) Sealing effect of dentin adhesive was greater in opfn dentinal tubules. Thus when applying dentin adhesives treatment of root suface with Toot planing and other chemicals is recommended.
