Finite Element Analysis of Stress by various designing of the amalgam cavity

Abstract
The Strain gage method, Holographic method and Photoelastic analysis etc. have been used for stress analysis of prosthesis, of hodontic or orthopolic appliances and filling materials. But these methods limits on the analysis of internal stress. But the Finite Element Analysis makes it.
The purpose of this study was to compare the stress estfhution of the various amalgam cavity design. The cavity was designed to 4 different types according to width and depth ; isthmus 1/3, more than 1/2 and fiatten pulpal floor, rounded pulpal floor for protection of pulpal damage.
The results were as follows :
1. Model ¥° shows no critical stress on tooth matefal and the degree of forces are mild.
2. When the islfunus is 1/2 of cuspa1 width, the stresses are distribute in cavity, cervical area and cusp tips. The degree of stress was higher when the isthmus is 1/3 of cuspal width.
3. When the pulpal floor is rounded, the stress was distributed well than that of the flattened pulpal floor. The latter shows that the stresses were widely distribute of into the tooth material than when the ruunded pulpal floor.
4. Flattened pufpal floor shows that the stresses are higher than rounded pulpal floor on cusp tips and cervical area.
