Effect of Castration and Sex Hormone Administration on Zinc Content, Zn^65 Uptake and Carbonic Anhydrase Activity of Male Gonads of Rabbits.

Abstract
Zinc content, Zn65 uptake and carbonic anhydrase activity were measured in testes, seminal vesicle and prostate tissue of 90 male rabbits castrated and injected estrogen, androgen and progestrone.
The result of this investigation was as follows;
1. Zinc content of testes and seminal vesicle of non-castrated rabbit did not show any remarkable increase upon various sex hormone injection. However, the zinc content in prostate was decreased remarkably upon large amount of estrogen administration presenting again no significant increase when androgen and progesterone were administered.
2. Zinc content in gonadal tissue was decreased to 1/3 by castration; administration of sex hormone, however, showed the following result; Androgen restored to precastration status. Estrogen and progesterone restored to 2/3 of original status.
3. No fluctuation has been observed on Zn65 uptake by gonad tissue of non-castrated rabbit on administrating androgen and progeterone but remarkable decrease of Zn65 uptake was noted on enlarged amount administration of estrogen.
4. Castration applied, Zn65 uptake was decreased to 1/2.5 by seminal vesicle and 1/3 by prostate. Introduction at this stage androgen produced Zn65 uptake in excess of precastration status. Estrogen and progesterone were although effective but not to the degree as seen in the case of estrogen administration.
