The Effect of Panax Ginseng Essential Oil and Fat Oil on the Serotonin Liberation.

Abstract
|
|
|
The fact that Ginseng fractions, particularly its oil fractions, exert significant effect on the serotonin liberation led to the writer to the comparative study of the subfractions of Panax Ginseng oil-the essential oil and the fat oil on the serotonin liberation, to elucidate the particular component that liberates serotonin..
1. The fat oil fraction caused at the concentration of 5 mg per Kg of body weight significant reduction of rabbit blood pressure.
2. A slight elevation of 5 HT concentration in the rat blood was noted following administration of the essential oil fraction.
3. Fat oil fraction caused marked increase of the 5 HT content of the rat intestine.
4. Increase of 5 HT content in the rat ,,blood was noted with administration of IIH, whereas no
significant change was observed in the intestinal 5 HT content with the same dose of the IIH.
5. In vitro experiment of rat kidney which was previously treated with crude enzymes, both essential
and fat oil caused increase of 5 HT content in the homogenate, but the fat oil fraction tended to
exert more pronounced effect.
6. Only the fatoil caused marked increase of 5 HIAA excretion in the 12 hours rat urine.
