Effect of liver injury on metabolic pattern of glucose in remaining liver tissue

Abstract
Male rabbit was subjected to investigate the effect of liver injury (partial ligation of liver or partial hepatectomy) on metabolic pattern [HMP (I?E)/ EMP?TCA pathway (F,)) in liver homogenate by the method of Bloom et al (49).
Control experiment was performed using the liver tissue resected on hepatectomy.
Following result was abtained.
1. In control, E was 53.0%, therefore 1?E might be 47.0%.
2. After partial ligation of liver, the value of E dropped quickly and recovered from 4th day to approach preinjured condition.
1st day: E=31.2%, 2nd day: E=28.2 (the mini-mum), 4th day: E=37.4 % , 6th day: E=:42. 1 %.
3. In the case of the partial hepatectomy, the values of E were changed as follows.
1st day: 15.2%, 2nd day: 34.6%,
4th day: 41.8%, 6th day: 47.3%
From the data, thus obtained,it migh the concluded that liver injury caused the change of metobolic pattern of glucose in remaining liver tissue, i, e, the hexose inonophate pathway prodominate overEMPTCA pathway, and the change was more serious by hepatectomy than by Iigation of liver.
