A Study on the Factors of Medical Productivity in General Hospital

Abstract
The objective of this study is to find out the factors which affected medical productivity in general hospital. The unit of analysis is hospital(Seoul 55, Incheon 9, Kyonggido 20), and the data is collected from the KMIC, NFOMI, KMA Medical productivity, which is dependent variable in this study, is measured with medical treatment fees of medical insureds and medical aids during 1994. Main results of the study could be summarized as follows ; 1. Medical productivity is continuously increasing over the bed sizes, but its increasing rate is low. 2. Intensive utilization of medical assistants can considerably improve medical productivity. 3. The medical productivity in Seoul is lower than that of Kyonggido, which reflects a rapidly increased competition from newly constructed large hospitals in Seoul. 4. Most of medical equipments do not contribute to medical productivity. The above findings will provide basic information about optimum combination of inputs for efficient medical production in general hospital.
