Analysis of Effect of Soil Characteristics to the Attenuation of Heavy Metals
Hong Sang-Pyo

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze soil pH, CEC(Cation Exchange Capacity), and concentration of heavy metals such as copper, lead and zinc. Soil contamination from landfill site is determined by the reaction characteristics of waste with the geochemical features of landfill site. Soil samples from Metropolitan Landfill site were quantitatively analyzed by an atomic absorption spectrometer to acquire concentration of heavy metals. The results are epitomized as follows ; 1. Concentrations of Zn, Pb and Cu from the deep soil and top soil at Metropolitan Landfill site are similar to the average concentrations of uncontaminated soil. 2. The average concentration of copper from the deep soil and the top soil are 11.2§¶/g and 13.5§¶/g respectively. 3. The average concentration of lead from the deep soil and the top soil are 17.2§¶/g and 6§¶/g respectively. 4. The average concentration of zinc from the deep soil and the top soil are 79.3§¶/g and 5§¶/g respectively. 5. Heavy metals concentration of top soil are generally higher than those of deep soil. 6. Range of soil pH is 6.0¡8.4. In case of high content of humic substance, soil pH is genrally low. 7. Range of Cation Exchange Capacity is 6.7¡20.5 meq/100g.
