A Study of Serum Protein Changes in Childhood Leukemia

Abstract
Serum proteins were studied in ¥± patients with leukemia, ages 1 to 16 years, who were admitted to the Pediatic ward, Chosun University Hospital during the period Sep-tember, 1977 to October, 1978 The results obtained are follows.
1. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (7 cases). Serum albumin was markedly decreased in all patients with ALL, however alpha 2 globulin and gamma globulin was elevated in all patients.
2. Acute Myeloblastic Leukenua(3 cases). Serum albumin was markdely decreased in all patients with AML, however gamma globulin was significantly elevated in all patients.
3. Erythrole ikemia (olne case) Serum albumin was markedly decreased, however gam-ma globulin was significantly elevated.
4. It was observed teat serum albumin levels were significantly decreased in all patients with leukemia at the time of admission and immunoglobulin levels were elevated in all patients with leukemia In conclusion it suggested that hypergammaglobulinemia that was observed in all patients with leukemia is due to immunological reactions in the host.
