Histopathological Studies in the Nerve Cells in Case of Stress and ofInjection of Hypophyseal Adrenocorticotropic and Adrenocortical Hormones

Abstract
Since a theory of General Adaptation Syndrome was introduced to the field of medical science by H. Selye in 1936, there have been many accumulated papers describing morphological changes of each system on the animal, with many different description, which leave us confused.
I reported here the histopathological findings of the nerve cells for the brain cortex of rats with five different staining ways (Hematoxylin-Eosin, Thionin, Sudan ¥², Nile blue, and Periodic Acid Schiff staining).
The rats weighing from 100gm, to 150gm. were used and they were divided into three major groups.
The first group was the control group, the second group was the stress group, the third major groups. group were the hormone injected group. Then the second and the third group were each divided into following subdivisions.
The Second Group
a) Emotional stress group
b) Cold stress group
c) Forced swimming group
d) Noise stress group
The Third Group
a) A. C. T. H. injected group
b) Coitison injected group
c) D.0.C A. injected group
From the experimental observations, the following result were obtained. The stressed group of all subdivided groups showed the same histopathological findings as on the stressed animal which had been reported by H.Selye as General Adaptation Syndrome.
Then the groups of hormone injected group showed the following results. a) The A. C. T. H. injected group revealed chromatolysis (granular break down of the cytoplasmic membrane.)
b) The Cortision injected group was characterized by the vacuole formation on the nerve cells.
c) The D. O. C. A. injected group revealed chromatolysis on the nerve cells of the brain cortex.
