A study of anxiety influenced by hospitalized patients


Abstract
This study were sampled 146 medical-surgical patients hospitalized to Chosun University Hospital from November 16th to November 21th, 1981.
The questionnaire form included 40 questions and devided into five area;
(1) hospital environment (2) disease itself (3) nursing care and treatment (4) human relation (5) family and economic problems.
The results of the study were as follows;
1. With regard to the questions related to hospital environment, "come in without knock when the door is closed" was most frequently as a stress event perceived by patients (37.7%) and "living with other patient" was considered to be less serious stress event(8.9%).
2. With regard to the questions related to disease itself, "requirement for a long time hospitalization" was perceived most frequently as a stress event(58.2%) by patients and "admission for surgery" was considered to be less serious stress event(47.3).
3. With regard to the questions related to nursing care and treatment, "admission without knowledge for the illness" was perceived as a stress factor most frequently (61.6%) by the patients and "come in and frequently room by doctor or nurse" was considered to be less serious stress event(5.5%).
4. With regard to the questions related to human relations,"no explanation about result after examination" appeared to be the most frequent stress event by the patients (63.0%), followed by "no explanation about treatment or examination"(56.9%).
5. With regard to the questions related to family and economic problems, "high cost of hospitalizaion" was most frequently as a stress event perceived by patients (44.5%) and "carelessness of household problem" was considered to be less stress event (32.2%)
