A Study on Sickness Prevalence in a Rural Population

Abstract
|
|
|
In order to study the morbidity rate, kind of sickness and demand for medical care in a rural area of Cheonnam province, the survey was performed on 82 households comprising 408 persons during a one month period of April 1 to 30, 1981.
The findings from the study was as follows:
1. The number of persons per household was approximately 5.0 person.
2. For the poulation composition, the age group of 10 to 14 years constituted 19.1% of the population, the group of 5 to 9 years was 11.8% and the group of 0 to 4 years was 6.6%.
The worthy of notice was the proportion gradually decreased as age decrease.
3. During the period of survey(Apr. 1 to 30, 1981), the morbidity rate reached 247.2 per 1,000 persons.
At the age group of 10 to 14 years was lowest at 153.8 and gradually increased by aging. At the group of 60 to 69 years was highest at 394.7.
The morbidity rate of male persons at the group of 10 to 14 years was lowest at 137.0.
Especially the morbidity of female person was higher conspicuously than that of male person after the group of 25 to 29 years and it was a matter for consideration on maternal health care.
4. The distribution of the disease showed 24.8% in the gastrointestinal system, 20.2% in the respiratory system, 11.9% in the dental cases, 8.2% in the disease of skin and subcutaneous tissue in respectively.
5. The demand for medical care showed that 51.4% utilized drug store, 25.7% utilized hospitals and heath center, 8.3% utilized herb drugs and the rest without medical care was 9.1% out of patients.
