A Study on the Job Activity Analysis of the Hemodialysis Nurses

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyse the job activities of the :H/D nurses andto develop their job activities.
This study surveyed 222 H/D nurses¢¥ reports using a questionnaire which contained 101 questions about the nursinf; care contents of the H/D nursing and 7 questions about the characteristics of the H/D nurses who were working in the H/D rooms of the 80 hospitals and local clinics.
H/C~ nurses checked for 6 days the frequency of the H/D job activities and the amount of time spent in each individual nursing content by the stop watch which had been provided The data was gathered from Jan 21, 1999 to CCt. ~0, 1999 and analysed by descriptive statistics, F-test and Pear-son¢¥s correlation r with SPSS program
Thee results are as follows:
1. Through this study 101 H/D nurses¢¥ job activities and 6 categories were derived: pre-H/D nursing care, for-H/D nursing care, post-H/D nursing care, nursing management, delivering activity, education.
2. The average frequency of categorized hemodialysis nursing activities could be classified as follows: For-H/D nursing care category was the highest at 79.48 times. The next was the pre-H/D nursing care at 73.95 times. Post-H/D nursing care 34.31 times, nursing management 12.02 times, education 7.55 times, and delivering activity 1.93 times.
3. The average time required for each category was as follows: pre-H/D nursing care category took 142.93 minutes, that was the highest. And post-H/D nursing care 99.51 minutes, for H/D nursing care 99.34 minutes, nursing management 65.49 minutes, education 50.30 minutes and delivering activity took 8.82 minutes.
4. The highest frequency of H/D nursing activity content was ¢¥the monitoring of patient¢¥s condition and H/D machine¢¥ and 9.31 tunes for each duty. The next contents were ¢¥hand washing¢¥, ¢¥identifying continuous heparinization¢¥.
5. The most time consuming nursing content was ¢¥preparing the facilities for H/D¢¥ and took 22 mimutes for each duty. The next contents were ¢¥infusing blood which contained in extracooporial system¢¥, ¢¥removing air and residual disinfectant with priming Sol.¢¥
6. The F-test was verified to measure the required time for the categorized nursing activity according to H/D nurse¢¥s position. There were significant differences statistically(PC(~5) in pre-H/D nursing care, post-H/D nursing care, nursing management, delivery activity and education. The result showed that pre-H/D nursing care was mostly done by the staff nurse, and post-H/D nursing care was mostly done by the charge nurse. While, nursing management and delivering
activity, and education were mostly done by the head nurse.
7. The F-test was verified to measure the direct and indirect nursing activities according to H/D nurse¢¥s position. There were significant differences statistically(P<05) both in direct nursing activity and indirect nursing activity The results showed that the direct nursing activity was mostly done by the charge nurse and the indirect nursing activity was mostly done by the head nurse.
8. Pearson¢¥s con elation was administered to identify relation between nurse¢¥s general characteristics and average time required for each category. Of the 7 characteristics on the H/D nurses, 4 variables :age, hospital career, H/D room career, career in present position showed negative correlation with the required time for post-H/D nursing care. While, 3 variables age, hospital career, H/D room career correlated with the 3 areas, those were the required time for nursing management, delivering activity and education.
Recommendations :
1. The next following study based upon the H/D patient¢¥s expectations to the H/D nurse would be performed.
2. A study on the job activity analysis in the H/D room would be perforrrred based on the nurses¢¥ self-reports and other measurable objective data.
